A group of purple sea snails, or janthina, has recently been spotted at La Jolla Shores in San Diego. Anya Stajner, a biological oceanographer, discovered about 10 of these creatures while walking her dog. Typically found in subtropical and tropical waters, their last documented presence onshore in this region was in 2015. Factors like warm ocean currents and climate conditions have influenced their appearance in this area, with the current water temperatures exceeding 70 degrees Fahrenheit prompting their return.
