'I don't know where my medal is' - Macey
"I haven't mentioned it, to be honest. It's a really nice thing to have but in terms of my career it is not top of my achievements."
"It was an amazing moment and it's nice to be on my CV but I didn't play any minutes in the competition, it was Covid, there was nobody there."
"My memories of that period are feeling lucky that we were able to train and play and give people some happiness in a tough year. We didn't get to celebrate with the fans, which would have been incredible."
Matt Macey, Colchester United goalkeeper, was on the bench when Arsenal won the FA Cup at Wembley in 2020. He spent seven years with Arsenal but played only twice in cup competitions before leaving. Macey regards the Wembley day as a pleasant memory but not among his top career achievements and rarely mentions the medal to teammates. The 2020 cup run occurred during Covid lockdown with no fans present, making celebrations muted. Macey recalls feeling fortunate to train and play and hopes to improve his FA Cup record in Colchester's upcoming first-round home match against MK Dons.
