The advertising industry's shift away from diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives has harmed marginalized creators financially. Major brands are scaling back their DEI programs, resulting in fewer sponsorships for creators focused on diverse identities. Creators like Alex Norimaki and Erin Ashley Simon have reported drastic income drops due to this trend, which extends beyond race to include cultural and orientation-related identities. Sponsorship opportunities that previously rebounded during specific cultural months have disappeared, leaving creators struggling to maintain revenue streams.

The pullback has been for not just LGBTQ+ creators, but for anything that's cultural or orientation-based.
