Amazon has confirmed layoffs in its cloud-computing unit, Amazon Web Services (AWS). Employees are using internal communication channels to gather information about affected teams and the number of layoffs. Confirmed layoffs include frontline support and AWS Worldwide Specialist Organization. The spokesperson stated that decisions to cut roles were based on organizational review, not primarily driven by AI, which CEO Andy Jassy suggested could reduce the workforce. Employees will receive benefits for 60 days along with severance pay, specific eligibility criteria remains unaddressed.
"After a thorough review of our organization, our priorities, and what we need to focus on going forward, we've made the difficult business decision to eliminate some roles across particular teams in AWS."
"The cuts aren’t primarily due to AI and the company has thousands of job listings posted in areas it deems more strategic."
