Meta will remove monetization privileges and stop recommending content from accounts that repeatedly post unoriginal content to minimize AI-generated spam on Facebook. The new policy targets content creators who have been overwhelmed by synthetic material. Creators must add meaningful enhancements to avoid penalties. Meta is already taking measures against 500,000 accounts engaged in spammy behavior and has removed 10 million accounts impersonating creators. The changes include prioritizing original content in user feeds and testing attribution links for copied content.
"Too often the same meme or video pops up repeatedly, sometimes from accounts pretending to be the creator and other times from different spammy accounts. It dulls the experience for all and makes it harder for fresh voices to break through," the company wrote in a blog post.
Users are encouraged to enhance shared content significantly beyond basic editing or watermarking in order to avoid penalties on their accounts.
