Southwest to Add a New Route to This Caribbean Island Famous for Its Crystal-clear Waters

Southwest Airlines plans to launch new flights to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, in early 2026, which would be its ninth island destination in the Atlantic Basin. New flights need government approvals, and the specific departure locations remain unclear. In addition, Southwest is expected to announce two more new destinations. The U.S. Virgin Islands have seen significant growth in air travel, with a record high of over 930,000 air travelers in 2024, a 16.5 percent increase from the previous year.
"We want to make Southwest Airlines the easy and obvious choice every time, and this is another meaningful step in our ongoing transformation," Southwest CEO Bob Jordan said.
The U.S. Virgin Islands continue to be a popular destination among air travelers and cruise passengers, with more than 930,000 people traveling to the region by air in 2024, representing a 16.5 percent increase.
