The UK political landscape is currently dominated by discussions surrounding the immigration white paper and recent comments by Keir Starmer. However, foreign policy issues, including Ukraine-Russia negotiations and the Gaza crisis, are also on the agenda. A significant point of contention has arisen regarding Starmer's offer for Donald Trump to make a state visit to the UK, acknowledged by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney as unpopular among Canadians. Carney expressed his dissatisfaction during a Sky News interview, illuminating tensions in UK-Canada relations during times of sovereignty disputes.
To be frank, they [Canadians] weren't impressed by that gesture. Quite simply, given the circumstance, it was at a time when we were being quite clear, some of us were being quite clear about the issues around sovereignty.
Well, that's a judgment for the government of the United Kingdom and the palace.

This was one of those interviews where there was no surprise in the substance of what Carney said; it has been widely known that Canadians were unhappy about the state visit.
