Remorseless' hit and run driver still blames the pensioner he killed
Briefly

Anop Singh was convicted for killing John 'Frank' Heneghan, a pensioner, in a hit and run crash while speeding in a 30 mph zone. Singh struck Heneghan, who was crossing the road, and then drove over his body to escape. During his appeal against the prison sentence, Singh blamed Heneghan for being intoxicated and stepping into the road unexpectedly. The judge found Singh's claims of remorse insincere, as evidenced by his actions and lack of empathy following the incident. The appeal was dismissed, maintaining the severity of his crime.
Anop Singh was driving at between 47 and 76 mph in a 30 mph zone when he struck 72-year-old John 'Frank' Heneghan, who was crossing the road.
After initially stopping, Singh deliberately drove over the victim's body in an attempt to escape the scene, showing a complete disregard for human life.
In his appeal, Singh blamed the victim for being heavily intoxicated and stepped into the road out of nowhere, claiming the judge failed to consider this.
Mr Justice Choudhury stated that Singh's claims of remorse were insincere given the judge's assessment of his insensitivity and lack of empathy for the victim.
