""It's just one nightmare after another," Ms Chummun told The Independent."
""I love working, it gives me a sense of purpose and meaning, I don't want to retire... It's so frustrating and I'm trying everything... I want to get up and go to work. I don't want to claim benefits.""
""I feel I no longer belong in the job market due to my age, and the government must help older people facing similar challenges.""
Tina Chummun, 50, has applied for 4,000 jobs in two years but remains unemployed and in debt. She attributes her struggles to age discrimination in the job market. After losing her job in April 2024, she has worked part-time but cannot cover her bills. Despite her qualifications, she has only received one interview for a marketing position. Her house is for sale as she plans to move to London for better job prospects. If unsuccessful in a year, she may have to move in with her mother for support.
