He entered federal service in 1969 under President Nixon, became White House chief of staff under President Ford at age 34, won a House seat from Wyoming in 1978, served as Secretary of Defense directing the invasions of Panama and the Gulf War, and served as Vice President after the 2000 election. He taught family values, love of country, and fly fishing.
