Former Halo Devs Blast ICE Meme As 'Despicable'
""It really makes me sick seeing Halo co-opted like this.""
""Using Halo imagery in a call to 'destroy' people because of their immigration status goes way too far, and ought to offend every Halo fan, regardless of political orientation,""
""I personally find it despicable. The Flood are evil space zombie parasites and are not an allegory to any group of people.""
""The Prophets are not Popes, the Grunts are not Wahhabis, and the Flood are definitely not illegal immigrants," "The Master Chief is not a Christ figure and Cortana is not the Virgin Mary, I guess?""
The Department of Homeland Security posted a Halo-themed meme on X on October 27 showing Master Chief and a Spartan in a Warthog with the caption "DESTROY THE FLOOD" and "Finishing this fight." Microsoft declined to comment on the post. Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto called the image "absolutely abhorrent" and said it made him sick to see the franchise co-opted. Franchise veteran Jamie Griesemer criticized equating immigrants with the Flood, called the move despicable, and rejected claims that Halo is an allegory for any religion or political movement. Microsoft is promoting a remake of the original game next year.
