Harvard seeks restoration of research funds - Harvard Gazette
Briefly

Harvard contended in a federal court hearing that the Trump administration's termination of substantial research funding was unconstitutional. The hearing involved significant questioning of the Justice Department's assertion of its rights in halting funding. Harvard's attorney asserted that the government was coercing the university's autonomy through demands related to antisemitism and other areas, citing violations of academic freedom and First Amendment rights. Concerns were raised about potential consequences of linking funding decisions to free speech issues.
"If you can make decisions for reasons oriented around free speech, the consequences of that are staggering to me," Burroughs said.
"This is a blatant, unrepentant violation of the First Amendment," Lehotsky said. "The government says this case is all about the money. This case is really about federal government control of the inner workings of one of America’s most prestigious educational institutions."
