Michael McFaul, former U.S. ambassador to Russia, discusses Trump's change on Putin
Briefly

President Trump has recently expressed frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin, suggesting a shift in his approach towards new sanctions. After previously resisting sanctions and making controversial comments about Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, Trump is now considering bipartisan measures against Russia. Michael McFaul highlights the president's change in tone, reflecting a sense of annoyance with Putin’s demands and the failure of Trump's earlier strategy to appease him. This may lead to a reevaluation of how the U.S. interacts with Russia moving forward.
This does feel different. The president used a more blunt word, and that's the first time he's ever done that talking about Putin.
He promised that he could end this war in 24 hours. He’s now tried to end the war for several months. His strategy has been flawed.
His strategy has been to appease Putin, to give him concessions and to put pressure on the Ukrainians. What's happened instead is Putin's just asked for more.
I hope he pivots to a different strategy that better reflects the reality of how Putin behaves.
