In-N-Out Burger has confirmed that it continues to use sunflower oil for cooking French fries, despite a White House news release suggesting otherwise. The company is working on upgrading its oil but has not made any changes yet. In addition, In-N-Out plans to introduce an oat milk creamer option and is researching better-quality oils. The White House has updated its release to link to a related article about menu changes, moving away from a previous erroneous report. Health officials have cited concerns about beef tallow being detrimental to heart health.
"Information was recently published in error stating that In-N-Out Burger has transitioned to beef tallow for cooking French fries," Denny Warnick said. "We continue to work on an upgrade to our current sunflower oil, however we have not yet made a change."
In-N-Out CEO Lynsi Snyder mentioned that the chain plans to add an oat milk creamer option and is "researching an even better-quality oil for our fries."
The White House news release now links to an article about these changes rather than the April Fools' day prank post about beef tallow.
While Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. touted beef tallow as a healthier alternative, medical experts pointed out that it tends to be worse for heart health due to high saturated fat.
