Nintendo has issued the 20.1.1 update for the original Switch as a minor patch to resolve software launch issues stemming from the 20.1.0 update. The earlier version introduced significant visual and audio changes to get the Switch ready for the upcoming Switch 2, set for release on June 5. However, with the anticipation for Switch 2 high, preorders quickly sold out, but restocks are anticipated soon at major retailers, with options for the console and special bundles available until Fall 2025.
According to the patch notes on Nintendo's support website, the new system update 'Fixed an issue where some software would not start after updating to system version 20.1.0.'
The upgrade includes notable audio and visual changes to the Switch's interface to align it more with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
While Switch 2 preorders quickly sold out when they went live back in April, many retailers will have in-store and online restocks this week.
The Nintendo Switch 2 hits stores on June 5, retailing for $450 or $500 for a limited-time bundle with Mario Kart World.
