"Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claims to have captured an oil tanker, Ocean Koi, in a special operation in the Gulf of Oman, saying the vessel was attempting to disrupt oil exports and the interests of the Iranian nation, according to state media. In a statement carried by the Fars news agency, a spokesperson from the army said the Iranian Navy's rangers and marines directed the offending tanker to the southern coast of the country."
Iranian state media reported that IRGC forces boarded and detained the Barbados-flagged vessel Ocean Koi in the Gulf of Oman. The IRGC claimed the tanker was attempting to disrupt oil exports and Iranian national interests. Iranian Navy rangers and marines directed the vessel toward Iran’s southern coast. The army stated it would strongly defend Iranian interests and assets in territorial waters and would not tolerate violators or aggressors. Marine Tracker identified the ship as registered in Barbados. Reporting from Tehran said the seizure was not the first in the Strait of Hormuz, but it signals a shift toward a new maritime regime. The proposed Persian Gulf Strait Authority would manage passage through the Strait of Hormuz, requiring full coordination and clearance from Iranian forces for ships entering and leaving.
