"To [allegedly] do this is beyond serious. It could have been catastrophic."
"Medical gases are relied on by people who are experiencing serious illness across the hospital, and they are used often to keep people alive, sustain life and treat people,"
"To do this in any way, shape or form, is to put the lives of some very seriously ill people at risk in a hospital."
A 42-year-old woman allegedly cut the non-medical gas supply and water mains at Kareena Private Hospital at 12:20am and later switched off the gas main at Sutherland Hospital at 1:30am. The loss of gases forced Sutherland Hospital to switch to portable oxygen and air under contingency plans. NSW Health Minister Ryan Park described the acts as alleged deliberate sabotage and said the incident could have been catastrophic. Park said a person allegedly scaled a wall to access a restricted area at Sutherland. The woman was arrested in Miranda about 4am and charged with multiple offences including sabotage, trespass, damaging property and breach of bail.
