Tamara Belinfanti's journey to create a home in Brooklyn Heights reflects a profound exploration of identity and belonging. Initially viewing New York as merely a workplace, she sought to redefine home through a thoughtful renovation project. Collaborating with design and architecture teams, Belinfanti emphasized the importance of whimsy and personal expression. The historic brownstone's challenges became part of the creative process, ultimately leading to a unique living space that resonated with her vision. By choosing standout design elements, she successfully merged traditional features with imaginative qualities, ensuring that every room tells a part of her story.
When I first moved to New York in 2000, it was a place for work, but it was not home. For all of my childhood, home was Kingston, Jamaica.
I announced to the design and architecture teams that my dream was to create a home filled with whimsy, art, wonder, and joy-where every room sings.
The designers got it, agreeing that home should be an extension and expansion of your inner self. But how to bring such a nebulous vision to life?
The house was broken up into three units, spread across five floors. It had unconventional features, like two sets of stairs and a miniature door.
