Architecture and design had already entered Taska Cleveland's field of vision when she studied painting at the San Francisco Art Institute. "My experience as a fine artist has been informative in the way I work now," says the LA-born talent, who struck out on her own three years ago after rising to the position of artistic director of the AD100 firm Studio Shamshiri.

The newly opened JAÇ Hifi Café is a celebration of music, interior design, and coffee along Barcelona's Avinguda Diagonal. Curated by Spanish designer Isern Serra Studio for clients Ligia and Arnau, the café opened in July 2025 with a name that resonates on several levels. It's a nod to jazz itself, a reference to Japan's jazz kissa culture, and in Catalan, the word 'jaç,' meaning to recline and let go.

Hadley reconfigured the space to include a generous main bedroom suite, a guest room and bath, and a large open space that would include the kitchen, dining area, and living room, a nod to loft life convention. Knowing that the millwork was being supplied by Plain English and the plumbing fixtures and fittings by Waterworks allowed me to focus on the decor and more personal additions to the overall design.

The capsule wardrobe concept, popularized in the 1970s by Susie Faux, proposes an exercise in synthesis: a compact set of versatile pieces, capable of combining in countless ways to suit different occasions. And to enlarge the space, the drop ceiling was removed to expose the apartment's original beams. "We covered them with mirrored panels to highlight the structure of the building and add a graphic element," says Vince (the material used is Dibond, which is reflective and has an attractive textured finish). "We wanted to embrace Dibond's slightly wavy look, which both contrasts with and complements the large mirrored wall."

For their latest retail design for the hip golf lifestyle brand, Malbon, the Los Angeles-based 22RE approached the design of the Malbon Miami boutique from all angles: the aesthetic, functional, and sensational.

The hardest part of giving the piece a new life, Tory says, was choosing a new fabric, and she actually turned to a lot of framed artwork in her home for inspiration. "I started noticing just different hues of yellow," she says, so she took home several swatches from F&S Fabrics in Los Angeles and landed on a "lemon yellow" with "undertones of chartreuse green," as she describes. Nailing that inviting aesthetic isn't always easy, though; design pros make careers out of curating and cultivating layering techniques to invent cozy spaces that don't feel cluttered. There are also other signals that interior designers use (think: color!) to create cozy, warm interiors that don't require you to run out to HomeGoods for seasonal decor that you can't use after Halloween.
