North London estate set to be demolished and rebuilt over 20-year period
Briefly

The West Kentish Town Estate redevelopment will see the demolition of current buildings housing 316 flats and their replacement with 326 new social rent homes and 530 private market flats. A prominent feature will be a new 15-storey tower, and ten out of the eleven new structures will exceed the existing height. The project is planned in eight phases over 20 years, with 93% of tenants supporting the changes based on a 2020 ballot. The aim is to create a landscape-led regeneration that includes diverse housing tenures and quality public spaces.
The local authority plans to knock down all of the buildings on the estate, currently home to 316 flats, to replace them with 326 new homes for social rent and an additional 530 new flats for sale on the private market.
The redevelopment includes building a 15-storey tower block, with ten of the eleven new structures expected to exceed the height of the current three- and four-storey buildings.
Work will be carried out over eight distinct phases, anticipated to last for around two decades, with a ballot in 2020 showing 93% tenant support.
This landscape-led regeneration scheme aims to deliver a mix of housing tenures, commercial spaces, and high-quality open areas, all within a cohesive masterplan.
