Bill Spelman was a well-regarded former Council Member of Austin, known for his research-driven approach and teaching in urban policy at the LBJ School.

Given concerns expressed today, I have decided to withdraw this item from the agenda at this time to provide more opportunities to address council members' questions.

Under state law, Austin can only raise its tax rate by 3.5% without voter approval, and the city plans to address this by scheduling a tax election.

"If the gas company wins its proposal, it will have increased residential rates by 105 percent since 2019. Austin should not have to deal with this constant onslaught of price gouging. San Antonio's municipal gas utility only 70 miles to the south charges just half of these rates."
