Apple's valuation is debated due to a high forward P/E ratio, while chip stocks face scrutiny over their rapid price increases.
As of the time of this writing, ORCL shares are down over 12% as investors unpack its results: On the surface, the numbers look good. Non-GAAP earnings per share (EPS) were up 54% and total revenue was up 14%. However, as noted by CNBC, while Oracle's non-GAAP EPS beat LSEG analyst expectations of $1.64, analysts were expecting higher total revenue figures: $16.21 billion versus the $16.1 billion Oracle delivered.
Chip names bore the brunt of the selling, with Micron -7%, Nvidia -4%, Intel -6% and Broadcom -3%. AMD fell 3.7% and extended its decline by another 5% despite beating estimates on revenues and earnings and raising its Q4 sales guide. Momentum tech suffered enormously with quantum stocks - adjacent to AI and bid up on speculative momentum - down about 10% yesterday. Palantir tumbled 8% and was down a further 3% in after-hours trading.
