Interpol unveiled a new song called 'See Out Loud' featuring guitarist Daniel Kessler on vocals during a concert in São Paulo.
And our ears would confirm that - yes, indeed - it was the same great Phil Manzanera standing before us at the intimate Great American Music Hall in San Francisco on Thursday night (Feb. 19). The English art-rock icon came to town as part of a short "words and music" tour, which supports several different projects from this ever-active 75-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer (who was rightfully enshrined as a member of Roxy Music in 2019).
Throwing Muses, the highly influential band that helped draw up the road map for alt-rock in the '80s and paved the way for Nirvana and so many other acts to follow in the '90s, is finally coming back to town. Throwing Muses, led by phenomenal singer-songwriter-guitarist Kristin Hersh and featuring the equally awesome rhythm section of David Narcizo on drums and Bernard Georges on bass, are set to perform on April 17 at The Chapel in San Francisco.
For just over 50 years, guitarist Billy Gibbons, bassist Dusty Hill, and drummer Frank Beard (ironically the one without a beard) played the kind of biker beloved bar room blues rock that doesn't equal mainstream stardom. For them, it did. The only explanation that makes sense is that they were just that good at it. ZZ Top were the odd men out, and yet also oddly perfect for the nascent, new wave and pop obsessed MTV.
It's unreasonable to consider that the deathcore metal band, Kublai Khan TX, from Sherman, Texas, wouldn't be controversial. Redditt will give a person an eyeful of disconcerting and dissenting opinions, but it's the music that should give them the heads up between right and reich. With a songbook filled with shredding/grinding, takes on seemingly progressive social issues, like being ANTI: police brutality, organized religion, social anxiety and depression, and violence against women-this recent spike of far right signaling, is hopefully just a blip on an otherwise solid foundation.
The flute is an enigmatic, beautiful instrument able to produce sounds at once sweet and sorrowful seeming pulled literally out of thin air. The Magic Flute (or Die Zauberflote) is the title of a beautiful Mozart opera, but played by a talented musician, the flute itself can make its own magic. In the hands of a gifted musician, there are few, if any, things as beautiful as the mesmerizing sound of this instrument.
I'm not sure if it was the high stakes of planning the perfect itinerary or the looming idea of feeling like an outsider in a new place, but growing up, travel always felt daunting to me. In the hopes of conquering that fear, I applied to my university's summer study abroad program and soon found myself thousands of miles from my home in California to complete a two-month internship in London.
Smooth but provocative, harmonious but rebellious, alternative band Molotov has made waves since appearing on the Mexican music scene in the mid-90s. Founded by two friends, the group quickly added more and began developing a solid underground reputation. Once they signed with Universal Music Latin Entertainment, Molotov truly took Mexico by storm. Almost like a Latin answer to America's '90s rap-rock phenomenon, the group mixed genres and languages.
I'm really happy that we are talking, because one of the things that's frightening me is all this false press about [how] we've made $140 million and all of this, and I'm like, 'God, I wish we could have, for one gig,' it's just ridiculous, the different stories. I went on the internet the next morning and it was like, $140 million, $160 million. And I'm like, 'Where does this stuff come from?' And people like Billboard have printed it.
Flanked by the members of a co-ed dance crew, Shakira moved through plenty of choreography Tuesday night, none more memorably than the very convincing robot she did during a mash-up of "Las de la Intuición" and "Estoy Aquí."
This year's Fiesta del Mariachi features Grammy-winning Mariachi Los Camperos, along with local ensembles like Mariachi Bonitas, Mariachi Internacional Tapatio, and Mariachi San Jose.
