With the update, users can now pause Reels with a simple tap. Previously, tapping a Reel would mute the audio instead. Previously, pausing a Reel required a tap-and-hold gesture. With the update, a single tap now pauses playback, and the mute option appears once the Reel is paused.
As explained by Meta: AI-powered translations for Reels are starting to roll out in more languages, including Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, and Kannada, on Instagram. These new additions build on our existing language support for English, Hindi, Portuguese, and Spanish. The addition of more of the languages spoken in India is significant, because India is now the biggest single market for both Facebook and Instagram usage, beating out the U.S. by a significant margin.
Instagram is experimenting with skippable ads in its Reels feature, offering users the ability to bypass promotional content mid-scroll. Over the past month, ADWEEK observed three instances of this new format, which includes a countdown timer in the top-right corner of the screen followed by an ad equipped with a "skip" button. Meta confirmed the test, stating it aims to evaluate whether the format enhances business discovery, though unlike YouTube, it does not intend to share ad revenue with creators.
