May's first full moon, nicknamed the 'Flower moon,' reaches peak fullness on May 1. This moon is also known as the 'Frog moon,' 'Egg-laying moon,' or 'Leaf Budding moon,' reflecting the seasonal changes recognized by indigenous peoples.
'Inside it, you have the part of the galaxy that is still actively building itself with ongoing star formation. Outside it, you have a disc region populated almost entirely by stars that have drifted there from elsewhere.'
A black moon occurs when there is a second new moon in a calendar month, or when there is a third new moon in a season of four new moons.
On the evenings of July 3-4, Mercury will reach its eastern elongation, appearing above the western horizon soon after sunset, with orange-tinged Mars above it.
