Kansas City Chiefs revamped their roster by signing key free agents and restructuring contracts to improve their defense after a disappointing season.
A sneaker company is suing Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, along with their restaurant partners, alleging trademark infringement. The complaint centers on their use of the numbers specific to 1587 Prime, the name of their restaurant in Kansas City, according to court records. Mahomes and Kelce, along with business partners Noble 33, opened their steakhouse last year, combining Mahomes' and Kelce's jersey numbers to give it the name.
With the Kansas City Chiefs failing to qualify, this year marks the first postseason without Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady or Peyton Manning since the 1998 campaign. Manning reached the playoffs in 1999, while Brady joined the ranks two years later. Mahomes had been in the playoffs each season since 2018, but he tore his ACL in a Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. The defeat eliminated Kansas City from postseason contention, and the Chiefs finished 6-11.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Gardner Minshew sustained a left knee injury in the opening minute of Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans, left the game before halftime and was ruled out for the remainder of the game. Minshew scrambled on the third play of the game and fell to the turf in what appeared to be a non-contact injury. Immediately after the play, Minshew reached for his left knee and hobbled off the field.
There have been some pretty good quarterbacks who have had the same injury, and they've done pretty well after they came back. He'll get after it, and he's got good people here to rehab him. He'll be right on top of all of that.
Of course Josh Allen didn't take a breath in the final seconds of the latest Chiefs-Bills classic. You never know with Pat [Mahomes], Allen told reporters after Buffalo eked out a 28-21 win on Sunday. Bills kicker Matt Prater had earlier missed a 52-yard field goal with 27 seconds remaining that would have sealed the win for Buffalo. Even the miss was dramatic, with Prater doinking his kick off the right upright.
The name of Patrick Mahomes has been used around the Giants for years. It goes all the way back to when head coach Ben McAdoo was lobbying for the Giants to draft him in 2017. He was already off the board and selected by Kansas City by the time they got around to picking Evan Engram. Then general manager Dave Gettleman began evoking Mahomes after he drafted Daniel Jones with Eli Manning already on the roster in 2019.
