One of Ireland's leading livestock marts was fined €4,250 for animal welfare breaches after a Department of Agriculture review was triggered by an RTÉ Investigates programme into the mistreatment of calves. The programme broadcast in 2023 was entitled Milking It and involved both photographic and video evidence of young animals being mistreated.
Late last week, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced that the agency was acceding to decisions by U.S. regional circuit courts vacating the agency's Biden Administration-era rule banning noncompete clauses from U.S. employment contracts and preventing their enforcement. While some lawmakers have decried the decision to end this rule, the FTC also issued a request for information (RFI) as the Trump Administration seeks to develop a case-by-case enforcement approach for cracking down on noncompete abuses.
President Donald Trump signed a memo on Sept. 9 to increase enforcement actions against companies that use direct-to- consumer pharmaceutical advertisements and do not adequately disclose side effects from medications. The ads have now encroached into social media without proper disclosures with many online pharmacies not following the same rules that many pharmaceutical companies follow, a senior White House official said.
