I've checked in at a few of the group's lauded hotels over my decade-plus time living in France, but the Alpine locale has long been on my bucket list. While the resort is slated to open in December of 2028, it isn't a seasonal operation: visitors booking stays in the summer will have a range of options on hand, including hiking and various aquatic activities.

New out of the French Alps broke on Tuesday that Compagnie des Alpes will continue running La Plagne, one of the world's largest ski resort, after local authorities selected its bid for a new 25-year operating contract. The decision, announced November 25, follows a competitive tender process overseen by the Syndicat Intercommunal de la Grande Plagne, the public entity that manages the resort. The agreement gives the company's subsidiary, Société d'Aménagement de La Plagne, responsibility for the ski area through 2052.

This document typically absolves the resort of responsibility for injuries or accidents occurring on its property. Resorts can pay up to $3 million for liability policies. After the Colorado Supreme Court agreed to hear a petition from a snowboarder named John Litterer, the critical question now is: "To what extent does this liability waiver truly protect the resort?"
