She expresses pride in her daughter's choice to serve but also the anxiety of having a child in a wartime situation, stating, 'Never in a million years would I have thought I would have had a child in a war time situation.'
Hibuki, the stuffed animal dog, allows children to project their feelings, helping them to express emotions like sadness and anxiety. The child becomes the caretaker of the dog, which facilitates self-soothing.
Narjis seemed wise beyond her years, Jaber said, recalling how her daughter would comfort her whenever she would cry. 'Mama, you're my life. Don't cry, I love you so much,' Narjis told her mother as stress began to overwhelm her.
