Chatbots are growing fast - but search still rules the web

OpenAI's ChatGPT leads the chatbot segment, capturing over 86 percent of total chatbot traffic. Other competitors like Perplexity and Grok together comprise a much smaller share, despite some experiencing rapid growth.
Even as conversations with chatbots rise, traditional search engines remain dominant with 1.86 trillion total visits, 34 times greater than chatbots. Google's alone accounted for 1.63 trillion visits, averaging 4.7 billion daily.
The UK's Competition and Markets Authority reported concerns that Google's search advertising costs are higher than expected in a less competitive market, prompting discussions about assigning Google 'strategic market status' due to market dominance.
