John 'Jay' Porter, a former deputy chief of police and school resource officer, was convicted of three charges of raping a minor. The assaults took place between 2004 and 2005 while he was in a position of authority at Hopkinton Public Schools, where he developed a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student who initially sought his guidance. The district attorney described the case as an abuse of power, highlighting how Porter manipulated the victim before assaulting her in various incidents. Sentencing is set for June 18, with investigations conducted by law enforcement authorities.
The defendant in this case abused his position of power to take advantage of and manipulate a child to gain her trust before sexually assaulting her on multiple occasions.
During her ninth- and tenth-grade years at Hopkinton High School, the student would often go see Porter, the school resource officer, for support.
In one incident, Porter volunteered to drive the girl home from school after she was excused early. He stopped at the station and exchanged his police vehicle for his personal one.
Porter's sentencing is scheduled for June 18. The investigation was conducted by the district attorney's office and Massachusetts State Police.
