The No.1 Common Exhibition Makes a Case for Imperfect Timber
Briefly

At 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen, AHEC showcased No.1 Common hardwood, often overlooked due to its knots and color variations. Designers Andu Masebo, Daniel Schofield, and Anna Maria Øfstedal Eng transformed these imperfections into unique furniture pieces that celebrate the wood’s character. Masebo created the Around Table, a dynamic and adaptable tablescape promoting interaction. Schofield designed the Common Room, a modular system emphasizing flexibility in shared workspaces and utilizing the wood's inherent quirks. The exhibition champions a sustainable approach to design by leveraging nature's offerings.
Andu Masebo designed the Around Table from No.1 Common red oak, comprising eight reconfigurable curved segments, creating an adaptable gathering space that embodies connection and change.
Daniel Schofield’s Common Room, made from cherry wood, features a modular furniture system that addresses the need for flexible workspaces while embracing the imperfections inherent in No.1 Common.
