During his first trip back to the Middle East since reassuming the presidency, Donald Trump announced the lifting of US sanctions on Syria, promoting a chance for progress. The announcement coincided with a significant $600 billion investment commitment from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Trump's visit encompasses stops in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE, where he is also set to meet with Syria's interim leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa. He emphasized the need for Iran to adopt a less destructive approach as part of his diplomatic efforts.
"I will be ordering the cessation of sanctions against Syria in order to give them a chance at greatness," Trump said during his visit.
Trump expressed that while the sanctions served an important function, the time has come for Syria to move forward."
At the investment forum in Riyadh, he secured a $600 billion commitment from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Trump called on Iran to take a 'new and a better path' as he seeks to establish a new nuclear agreement.
