Newcastle United winger Harvey Barnes will not be switching allegiance to Scotland before the World Cup, head coach Steve Clarke has confirmed. The 28-year-old, who has one England cap from a friendly against Wales in October 2020, is eligible for Scotland through his maternal grandparents. However, Clarke revealed Barnes has turned down the opportunity to play for a place in his squad.

Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish have been left out of England's squad for their October 2025 fixtures. Real Madrid forward Bellingham returned for the La Liga club at the end of September following shoulder surgery, while midfielders Foden and Grealish have not regained their places despite promising form for Manchester City and Everton in the Premier League. Bukayo Saka has been recalled following the Arsenal forward's recovery from a hamstring injury.

Tottenham full-back Djed Spence and Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson have received their first senior England call-ups in Thomas Tuchel's squad for the Three Lions' World Cup qualifiers in September. Trent Alexander-Arnold, who left Liverpool for Real Madrid in the summer, has been left out after featuring in Tuchel's previous squad. Alexander-Arnold was not in the starting line-up for Madrid's 3-0 LaLiga win at Real Oviedo on Sunday. England host Andorra at Villa Park on September 6 and visit Serbia three days later.
