Students entering the workforce have ranked a good salary as their highest priority when looking for a job, according to new research. Leading fintech firm CompareNI.com carried out a survey of 100 students to find out their expectations of the workplace and what they value most when job hunting. Over a third (39%) placed money as the primary factor when looking at a prospective employer, with career progression ranking a close second (35%).

An Oxford don in charge of mathematical finance told its reporters that almost all his students ended up working at quant trading firms, on salaries from 250,000 to 800,000. If you get offered a salary less than 250K, you're kind of the sad guy, he said, adding that nobody I know interviews for JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs not once do I hear anybody entertain any of these traditional investment banking jobs.

Forbes released its list of America's top 500 colleges, and Bay State schools dominated the list. Ranking in first place again this year is MIT with a 20-year median salary of $196,900, average debt of about $12,000, and an A+ financial grade. MIT students earn a median salary of $110,200 three years after graduating, and 99.8% of students return to the college for sophomore year, Forbes said.
