PALO ALTO - A jogger died Sunday from injuries she suffered just days earlier when she was hit by a driver in Palo Alto, police said. The collision happened just before 7:25 a.m. Friday at Oregon Avenue and St. Francis Drive, the Palo Alto Police Department said in a news release.
CHP is searching for a driver who was involved in a fatal hit-and-run of a pedestrian who was on the Embarcadero Road and Highway 101 on-ramp in Palo Alto. The hit-and-run happened around 5:00 a.m. Sunday on the eastbound Embarcadero Road on-ramp, according to CHP Officer Sophie Lu. The pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene, Lu said. The Santa Clara Coroner's Office hasn't released the person's name.
The case centered on the death of Sumanth Kolar, 38, of Palo Alto, who jumped off a diving board and immediately struggled to stay afloat around 5 p.m. on Aug. 4, 2023. His two middle children, age 7 and 9, looked for the lifeguard, whose station was about 10 feet away, but 17-year-old lifeguard Brendan Ho was at the other end of the pool at 3539 Louis Road, the suit said.
During his tenure as chief, Blackshire was supposed to have received a 3% wage premium for his Emergency Medical Technician certification, the lawsuit, filed on Jan. 7 states. The premium requirements are outlined in a city compensation plan for EMT certified employees. Blackshire, who has had his certification since 1997, was paid the premium during his time as Deputy Fire Chief, according to the suit. But in July 2019, when Blackshire was promoted, the city stopped paying the premium.
SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The most famous French bakery in San Francisco is expanding outside of the city. According to the Palo Alto Weekly, Arsicault is opening up in Palo Alto in the fall. This will be its first shop outside of San Francisco. It will serve the same popular pastries as its other locations, along with baguette sandwiches. An exact opening date has not been announced.

Most residents of Buena Vista Mobile Home Park in Palo Alto will be forced to move out of their homes for eight months while utility lines running through the park are upgraded, according to the Santa Clara County Housing Authority. The Housing Authority informed residents of the Buena Vista Mobile Home Park that they will have to move out by February as the complex's utilities are renovated, said Director of Real Estate Flaherty Ward.
An initial investigation determined the bicyclist, a man in his 80s, was traveling southbound in the bicycle lane when he moved into the traffic lanes and was hit by a 2022 Mercedes-Benz, police said. The bicyclist suffered a major head injury in the crash, police said, adding that he was wearing a helmet at the time. He was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.
