Progressives on social media have spent the hours since CBS News anchor Margaret Brennan interviewed House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) on Sunday morning's edition of Face the Nation in a state of mass agitation. During their conversation, Brennan grilled Jeffries over his claim that President Donald Trump is attempting to rig the 2026 midterms, making note of Democrats' own efforts to draw favorable congressional district maps when Jeffries stood by his past remarks on the topic.

Over 4.5 million ballots were cast, either by mail or in person, as of Sunday, Oct. 26, according to the California secretary of state's office. The secretary of state's office sent more than 23.2 million vote-by-mail ballots to registered voters in recent weeks. Eligible voters who did not register to vote by the regular deadline, and therefore weren't sent a mail-in ballot, may have cast a conditional or provisional ballot in person instead. Their votes are included in Sunday's tally.

Virginia Democrats are taking steps to redraw their state's U.S. House districts, hoping to boost their party's chances in next year's midterm elections and counter President Donald Trump's push for more partisan districts in Republican-run states. The purpose includes congressional redistricting aimed at gaining more Democratic-held seats, according to four sources with direct knowledge of the plans who spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press because they are not authorized to publicly discuss them.
