Bob Krasner has spent years training his eye to resist the obvious. While the city screams for attention, his photography work insists on quiet. The result is a photographic practice rooted in restraint, patience, and a near-radical commitment to looking slowly. His latest body of work, unveiled last week and now on view through Feb. 22 at Ki Smith Gallery on the Lower East Side, feels like a controlled exhale inside one of the most visually aggressive environments on earth.

When we were coming up with the concept for our original show, we first came to the streets of New York City where I hid in a secret confession booth we set up in Midtown and asked women what they really want. Not just in a show, but in life. They shared some deeply powerful things. That insight helped us create our shows in Vegas, London and all over the world.

If you needed one more reason to brave the barricades, and the very real possibility of losing feeling in your toes: Diana Ross will ring in 2026 from the heart of the freezing temps Times Square tonight, just minutes before the ball drops. The legendary icon is set to take the Countdown Stage at 11:37pm on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest," performing a medley of her hits that includes "I'm Coming Out" and "Upside Down."

This year, the Times Square Ball will light up in red, white and blue. After it drops, it will rise again above the illuminated 2026 sign, as the first-ever release of 2,000 pounds of red, white and blue confetti falls on the Crossroads of the World. It will not fall again until July 3 in yet another celebration of patriotism and birthday excitement.

Founded by Jimmy Glenn, a former boxer turned trainer, in 1971, Jimmy's Corner has stood, defiantly unchanged, as Times Square has boomed around it. The neighborhood bar, a New York City institution which attracts locals and tourists alike, has had the same pictures on the walls for decades some of the bar's regulars have been coming almost as long kept the same furniture, and maintained remarkably low pricing.

The ritual is simple and extremely New York: head to the Broadway plazas between 45th and 47th Street, grab a colorful slip of paper, write down your 2026 wish and stick it to the wall. Every piece collected in person or online before December 29 gets printed onto real confetti that will be part of the roughly 3,000 pounds released on New Year's Eve. (That's about the weight of a small car, reborn as aspirations, for reference.)

According to police sources, the attack unfolded outside of 3 Times Square at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 1. Cops say an 18-year-old male was approached by a group who began questioning if he was in a gang. Despite telling them he wasn't with a gang, cops said, a man slashed him across his face, then fled from the scene.

A real Central Perk Coffeehouse is opening in Times Square this fall to welcome New Yorkers, tourists, and TV fans to step into the real-life version of the Friends characters' favorite hangout.
