A college financial aid advisor allegedly strangled his girlfriend before setting fire to their upstate New York home while she and their newborn baby were inside, according to authorities and reports. Kidane Haile, 30, was indicted Thursday after a horrific scene unfolded at 8:35 a.m. on Oct. 18 when Buffalo firefighters responded to a blaze at an apartment on Norwood Avenue, the Erie County District Attorney's Office said in a statement.

Officers responded shortly after 4 a.m. to a 911 call about an assault in front of Mama Dora Bar and Lounge on East Kingsbridge Road between Morris and Jerome avenues in Fordham Manor, according to NYPD officials.

Stith spent nearly a year in jail until last August, after Judge Brian Caruth set bail at a July court hearing. Caruth ordered Stith to reside at a transitional housing center and obey all laws while out of custody, according to a transcript of the bail hearing. Given her conduct with regards to efforts at rehabilitation, the court is inclined to believe Ms. Stith is not particularly prone to continue to engage in violent conduct if released from custody.

A 25-year-old Dublin woman pleaded not guilty Tuesday to helping her boyfriend in the killing of the manager of San Francisco's historic Condor Club outside his Santa Rosa home. A Sonoma County judge allowed Asia Lozano Morton to await trial outside jail under strict supervision and set her next court date for Dec. 4, according to court records. Morton must wear a GPS ankle monitor, surrender her passport and get permission from the court before leaving California.

Two former employees were arrested in Santa Rosa Saturday in connection to the homicide of Mark Calcagni, the general manager of San Francisco's Condor Club. Police suspect Richard Lund, 43, and Asia Morton, 25, who were in a romantic relationship and worked for Calcagni at one of the venues he managed, planned the killing. [KPIX] Police in the town of Watsonville in Monterey County are searching for two 12-year-old runaways a girl and a boy, who were involved in two hit-and-run collisions.

Adelto Sanchez Medizabal, 59, was convicted at trial of second degree murder and a knife enhancement in the 2023 stabbing death of Gerardo Abreau. In mid-September, Judge Thomas Reardon sentenced Medizabal to 16 years to life, despite pleas from Medizabal's lawyer to strike the one-year knife enhancement. Medizabal was transferred to North Kern State Prison earlier this month, records show.

The prosecution's case against Estrada-Avalos was marred by inconsistent or at one point, admittedly dishonest testimony from the lone eyewitness, a woman who admitted she was driving when Estrada-Avalos and a group of people, including the victim, got into a shouting match that precipitated the shooting. The woman lied on the stand at Estrada-Avalos' preliminary hearing, claimed to have memory problems at key moments of the timeline,

NYPD officials said officers responded to a 911 call about a person shot around 10:45 a.m. Thursday inside a house on 108th Avenue near 173rd Street in Jamaica. When they arrived, the officers found 18-year-old Jonathan Adams with a gunshot wound to his head. First responders took Adams to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police did not make any immediate arrests and did not have a possible description of the shooter, but said they were investigating the incident as a homicide.

Lester is on lifetime parole after he was sentenced in 1998 to 25 years to life in prison for a series of robberies in New York City. Magnus Humphrey had known Maleesa Mooney only for a few days, but the Minnesota man had already become "obsessive" about the model, who lived in a downtown L.A. apartment. Emergency services were alerted to the incident at a residential premises in Grattan Wood, Donaghmede, at around noon today. One male juvenile in his teens was discovered with serious stab injuries and has since been pronounced dead. Two other male juveniles also suffered suspected stab or slash-type wounds which are not thought to be life-threatening at this time. Other people were in the property at the time but escaped without suffering physical injury and raised the alarm.
