The protracted talks means that families of 390,000 students still must scramble to make contingency plans for their children Tuesday - and some 70,000 workers, including teachers and school principals, don't know if they will be at work or on a picket line.
"For the first time, a rigid office attendance mandate has been broken and replaced with a more sensible, flexible approach based on what actually works," General Secretary Fran Heathcote said. "This has been a long campaign and reaching a deal members could accept reflects the determination of PCS members at ONS, the hard work of their reps and the value of trade unionism."

But projected spending shows that the district will significantly spend its reserves to pay for its labor agreements, potentially depleting its "restricted funding" by 2028.

More than 10,000 union nurses at Montefiore and Mount Sinai Hospitals ended the longest and largest nurses strike in New York City on Monday after negotiating fair health care benefits, safe staffing groups, and improved workplace safety measures. The New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA), the union representing the nurses, announced that workers will vote on a series of tentative agreements with the two hospitals, negotiated over the weekend, later in the week. Nurses were set to vote sometime between Feb. 9 and 11.
On Monday, the district presented a 2% raise for teachers next year, when the Palo Alto Educators' Association said they had requested 13%. But in a statement to the Daily Post, Austin said the 13% actually equates to an 28% increase, as the district factors in other benefits and compensations. Austin said the district's counter of 2% came from its analysis of what would be an appropriate cost of living increase.
RICHMOND - Recommended changes meant to boost transparency for the Richmond Police Department will head to the negotiation table, sparking support from those grieving a recent police killing and pushback from the police union president who said the real issue is a lack of mental health support statewide. The city's Community Police Review Commission, a nine-member civilian oversight body formed in 1984, brought forward seven recommendations for the City Council to consider during a meeting Tuesday night.
"For example, we proposed to keep our benefits the same as they are now. We just wanted them protected under a contract," Tobin said. "[Hospice East Bay] said no, they want the right to make them worse. And so, that's been really shocking and disappointing."

The union is pushing for two significant pay claims aimed at addressing responsibilities and retention challenges for assistant principal and principal officer grades.
To hold telework solely responsible for such issues is inappropriate. Given the need for supervisors to assess the portability of an individual employee's work, I am not convinced there should be an arbitrary six-day cap.
