Fatal collision in Midwood claims senior citizen

The driver of a SmartCar struck an elderly pedestrian Monday, July 7 around 9:30 p.m. Police responding to a 911 call found a 70-year-old man at Avenue I and East Fifth Street.
The NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad determined that the 74-year-old driver of a 2016 Smart Car was traveling eastbound on Avenue I when he struck the pedestrian.
EMS transported the pedestrian, identified as Dov. B. Broyde, to Maimonides Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
Traffic statistics for the 66 Precinct show there have been three fatalities to date in 2025.
